Eurovision 2013

The Eurovision Song Contest is the cultural equivalent of the pancreas – it exists, it’s been around for a long time now, but when asked, most people wouldn’t be able to explain its function or why it is still here.  However, I find the annual celebration of Eurotrash and casual jingoism to be quite entertaining.  I won’t be attending this year, but I will be following the event with eager anticipation.

Albania (Adrian Lulgjuraj and Bledar SejkoIdentitet“)

This has a bit of a Celtic twang to it, it’s a memorable track that will sit comfortably in the mid table by the end of the show.

Armenia (Dorians, “Lonely Planet“)

English language ballad, with the slightest bit of ‘power’ to, in that it has a guitar solo.  One to hold your lighter in the air to, depending on health and safety regulations.

Austria (Natália Kelly, “Shine“)

R&B ballad with a catchy chorus.  Won’t be a winner, but then I never saw Molitva coming in 2007…

Azerbaijan (Farid Mammadov, “Hold Me”)

For some reason this reminds me of the Tim Minchin song, “If I Didn’t Have You”,” which may be instrumental in its success/failure
