Page the Oracle

Teletext, Ceefax, Oracle… all were 8-bit era precursors to the Internet, bringing text based information services to the British public through out the 1980s. Yes the graphics were rudimentary, yes it was very slow, but it worked and was convenient to use since it was just beamed to your TV on the back of the regular analogue signal. With the advent of faster and more advanced services, it was destined to go the way of the Sinclair C5 – but the fact that Ceefax is only to be switched off on October 24th of 2012 is testament to just how well received the service was.
